Op donderdag 6 juni organiseert de VWM in samenwerking met de KU Leuven de jaarlijkse doctorandidag, dit jaar rond het thema Autoriteit en Gemeenschapsvorming.

Acht doctorandi (Koen Vanheule, Jelle Lisson, Ortwin Huysmans, Xavier Baecke, Anke De Meyer, Valerie Vrancken, Renske van Nie en Soetkin Vanhauwaert) zullen die dag hun lopende doctoraatsonderzoek voorstellen en bediscussiëren onder leiding van referenten Arnoud-Jan Bijsterveld en Frederik Buylaert.

Op 17 mei om 14:30 zal prof.dr. Johan Oosterman voor de leden van de VWM en overige belangstellenden een lezing geven ter introductie van de tentoonstelling Liefde en Devotie: het Gruuthusehandschrift in de vriendenzaal van het Groeningemuseum  (Dijver 12, Brugge). Na afloop van de lezing zullen we gezamenlijk naar het Gruuthusemuseum wandelen (Dijver 17, Brugge) waar prof. Oosterman ons vanaf 15:00 zal rondleiden door de tentoonstellingszalen.

Johan Oosterman is niet alleen een expert op het gebied van het Gruuthusehandschrift, maar was ook nauw betrokken bij de organisatie van de tentoonstelling. Hij zal ons dus een unieke blik achter de schermen kunnen gunnen.

Attached you will find two call for papers.

The first call for papers is for our session ‘Morality, law and sexual behaviour in the (late) medieval city’ at the European Social Science and History Conference (ESSHC) in Vienna (23-26 April 2014). Abstracts are expected before May 10th 2013.

Our second session ‘Sex and the city. Morality, law and behaviour in the pre-modern city’  at the European Association for Urban History Conference (EAUH) in Lisbon (3-6 September 2014) focuses on the relationship between sexual behaviour and the use of the urban and the suburban space. Paper proposals can be submitted from May 15th 2013 on the website of the EAUH-conference.

Medieval Francophone Literary Culture Outside France is a two-day academic international conference to be held at University College London, 6-7 June 2013. In nine sessions, we will address the research questions set by the AHRC-funded MFLCOF-project, thus investigating how francophone literary texts travelled across Europe (the Low Countries, the British Isles, the Mediterranean) and beyond (the Crusader Kingdoms in the Holy Land). Particular focus will be on the period between the twelfth and the fifteenth century. The Italian Angevins: Naples and Beyond is a one-day interdisciplinary conference, focusing on the culture, history, and politics of the Angevin Regno, from 1266 to 1422. Complementing the 2013 Boccaccio Septcentenary, and immediately preceding this year’s Medieval Francophone Literary Culture Outside France conference, we anticipate that this event will stimulate much lively discussion among scholars of diverse disciplinary interests.
