Op 7 april 2017 organiseren het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis en de stichting het Nederlands Economisch-Historisch Archief de presentatie van een nieuwe dataset met gegevens over de muntslag in de Nederlanden, 1400-1800. De set combineert de verschillende, bestaande bestanden op een gebruiksvriendelijke manier die allerlei nieuwe onderzoeksmogelijkheden biedt.

Op het programma staan een aantal lezingen van specialisten in de numismatiek.

Het programma van Archaeologia Mediaevalis, het jaarlijkse colloquium voor middeleeuwse en postmiddeleeuwse archeologie, is bekend. De 40ste editie van Archaeologia Mediaevalis zal plaatsvinden op donderdag 16 en vrijdag 17 maart in de Moulins de Beez in Namen. Inschrijven voor het colloquium kan nog tot 13 maart 2017.

On the 16th and 17th of March 2017, professor Jelle Haemers and doctoral researcher Ben Eersels coordinate a two-day workshop on bottom-up initiatives in the making of Late Medieval urban politics. This workshops reconsiders the involvement of urban commoners in politics during the Late Middle Ages (13th – 15th centuries). It will focus on the alternative ideas commoners held on the government of society (‘contentious thought’) to ascertain their contributions to governmental practices.

Enrollment is free, but those who want to participate in both lunches are asked to pay a fee of 20 euros. Please register by e-mailing to ben.eersels@kuleuven.be.

Op donderdag 9 februari 2017 wordt aan de Université Libre de Bruxelles een conferentie gehouden met Patrick Boucheron, Professor aan het Collège de France, op de leerstoel “Histoire des pouvoirs en Europe occidentale, XIIIe-XVIe siècle”. Men zal discuteren rondom het onderwerp “Ecrire l’histoire des futurs du passé. Réflexion sur quelques utopies, du Moyen-Age et d’aujourd’hui. Aanmelden is verplicht.

Op 25-27 maart 2017 wordt aan de University of Hull een congres georganiseerd met als onderwerp “Circulating the Word of God in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Transformative Preaching in Manuscript and Print (c. 1450 to c. 1550)”. Registeren voor deelname dient voor 1 maart 2017 te gebeuren.

This conference will demonstrate how the sermon, a pivotal element in mass communication, shaped the people of Europe. Marking 550 years since the first printed sermon collection (1467) and 500 years from the start of the Reformation (1517), the focus will be on sermons as catalysts for change that were themselves altering dynamically in response to the new age of print. Driven by the urgent requirement for comparative research across particular chronological, geographical, and linguistic boundaries, the conference will concentrate on how the sermon individualistically crossed the so-called binary divides (at different rates and with variable effects) between Latin and the vernaculars; manuscript and print; Catholicism and Protestantism; and public and private, at a time of great religious ferment from the advent of print (1450) to the death of Martin Luther (1546).

Registration: £40 (including refreshments and lunches); £30 for postgraduates (including refreshments and lunches). There will also be a conference dinner and afternoon tea (at a cost of c. £20 to £25 combined).

Op 24 oktober 2016 organiseren de Koninklijke Bibliotheek van België en de Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België een symposium gewijd aan de librije van de Bourgondische hertogen en de publicatie van middeleeuwse boekinventarissen in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden. Het symposium wordt onder meer gehouden ter gelegenheid van het verschijnen van het langverwachte deel V van de uitgave Medieval Booklists of the Southern Low Countries (Corpus Catalogorum Belgii – CCB). Dit vijfde deel bevat de kritische publicatie van alle nog bestaande middeleeuwse inventarissen van de Librije van de Bourgondische Hertogen.

Op 10 en 11 November 2016 wordt in Nájera, Spanje, de 13e “International Meeting of the Middle Ages” georganiseerd. Thema voor deze editie is “Working in the Medieval City in Europe”. Verschillende onderzoekers uit de Lage Landen nemen deel.

Op 3 december organiseert de contactgroep Signum haar vijfde lustrumsymposium, in samenwerking met het Ruusbroecgenootschap en het Instituut van de Studie van de Letterkunde in de Nederlanden (ISLN) van de Universiteit Antwerpen. Keynote speaker wordt prof. dr. Walter Simons (Dartmouth College, USA).

Het symposium vindt plaats aan de Universiteit Antwerpen, Hof van Liere, Prinsstraat 13 te Antwerpen. Inschrijven dient te gebeuren vóór 11 november. Deelname voor Signum-leden en studenten kost 17,50€, alle anderen betalen 22,50€. Alle verdere informatie vindt u hier.

Het symposium sluit aan bij de jaarlijkse Ruusbroecdag, dit jaar op 2 december aan de Universiteit Antwerpen en met als thema ‘Mystieke vrijheid: Tradities en toekomst’. Het programma daarvan staat nog niet vast, maar meer informatie kan alvast gevonden worden op de website van het Ruusbroecgenootschap.

Op 24 en 25 november vindt in Gent en Brugge het congres ‘Bishops in the ‘Century of Iron’. Episcopal Authorities in France and in Lotharingia, 900-1050’ plaats. Alle informatie is nu bekend gemaakt op de congreswebsite.
