The Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies at Ghent University (BELGIUM) has a position available for a PhD researchers (full-time predoctoral researcher) in the project “Collaborative Authorship in Twelfth-Century Latin Literature: A Stylometric Approach to Gender, Synergy and Authority”. Stylometry, a subfield of Digital Humanities, offers new methods for segregating different writing styles. So far, stylometry has been especially popular in authorship attribution

Research Fellowship in Milan (Italy)
The CIRCSE Research Centre, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy), invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term Research Fellow position in the area of language resources and natural language processing.
THE RESEARCH CENTRE
The CIRCSE Research Centre (http://centridiricerca.unicatt.it/circse_index.html) is the official acknowledgement of the former GIRCSE, which was founded by father Roberto Busa SJ, the author of the Index Thomisticus and one of the pioneers in humanities computing.
The research centre hosts the Index Thomisticus Treebank project and maintains a number of NLP tools and language resources, mostly for Classical languages.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will manage the computer science related aspects of the CIRCSE research activities and projects.
In particular, the candidate will develop/re-use software to support research activity in the area of text analysis, implementation and exploitation of language resources such as treebanks and lexica. She/he will be in charge of the processing pipeline for storing, analyzing, retrieving and annotating digital collections, including (but not limited to) literary and philosophical texts written in Classical languages.
REQUIREMENTS:
– programming skills: C++ or Java, Python or Perl
– regular expressions
– good knowledge of English
PREFERENTIAL CONDITIONS:
– PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computational Linguistics
– setup and usage of SQL and no-SQL DB systems
– processing semi-structured data (for instance, XQuery)
– basic administration of an Apache web server
– designing and developing web-based applications
– methods and tools for natural language processing
– attested research experience in computational linguistics and, particularly, in developing language resources
– basics of theoretical linguistics
FORMAL MATTERS:
– duration: the post is available for up to two years (1 year + 1 year)
– salary for the first year: 19,370 Euros (1,470 monthly, after taxes)
– starting date: February 1st, 2015

Tentoonstelling Agnetenklooster (Maaseik)

En 2015, la Commission royale d’Histoire attribuera, pour la quatrième fois, le “Prix Henri Pirenne”. Ce prix, d’un montant de 2000 €, récompense l’auteur, sans distinction de nationalité, d’une édition substantielle de textes, inédite ou non, jugée exemplaire et relative à l’histoire de Belgique. Prijs Pirenne 2015
In 2015 zal de Koninklijke Commissie voor Geschiedenis voor de vierde keer de « Prijs Henri Pirenne » toekennen. De prijs, die 2000 € bedraagt, bekroont de auteur, ongeacht zijn of haar nationaliteit, van een al dan niet uitgegeven belangrijke editie van teksten die betrekking heeft op de geschiedenis van België en als exemplarisch wordt beschouwd. Pirenne Prize 2015
In 2015 the Royal Historical Commission will award the « Henri Pirenne Prize » for the fourth time. The prize, which amounts to 2,000 €, rewards the author, regardless of nationality, for his/her substantial editing of texts, original or not, considered to be exemplary and relative to the history of Belgium. Boekaanbieding The Carthusians in the Low Countries (25 oktober 2014)
Op 25 oktober 2014 wordt in het Kartuizerklooster (heden bisdom) te Roermond het boek The Carthusians in the Low Countries aangeboden aan de burgemeester van Roermond.
In deze bundel, onder redactie van dr. Krijn Pansters, zijn de lezingen verzameld die gehouden werden op het internationale congres ten tijde van de Roermondse tentoonstelling over de Kartuizerorde, ‘Het Geheim van de Stilte’, in 2009.
Op deze middag zijn er naast de boekaanbieding diverse lezingen van (Roermondse) specialisten op het gebied van de locale en nationale religieuze geschiedenis en cultuur. Het programma wordt opgeluisterd door muzikale bijdragen van het Zephyrustrio en wordt feestelijk afgesloten met een borrel. Op deze dag is er ook de gelegenheid tot aanschaffing van het boek met eenmalige korting.
